Finding Colleges by State

Does anyone know of an efficient way to search for colleges by state? Since I'd love to stay local, maybe someone has a resource or method to recommend that can help me categorize and explore colleges located in my state or nearby ones. I appreciate any help you can give!

There are a few strategies you could use to search for colleges in your state or nearby ones:

1. College Board's BigFuture College Search Engine: This is a free searchable database provided by the College Board, where you can filter search results by location (including specific states), major, type of college (2-yr, 4-yr), public vs. private, and more.

2. College Navigator: This is a search tool provided by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. College Navigator also allows you to search by location, including by specific states. It provides information on a range of topics, from tuition costs and majors offered to graduation rates and campus safety.

3. College Prowler: This site, now called Niche, has a great tool that lets you filter colleges by state. Each college page contains reviews from students, info on admissions and financial aid, and rankings.

4. Local Advising Centers: Most states have college advising centers that work with local high schools. These centers often have comprehensive lists of in-state colleges and universities and can provide personalized advice on which might be a good fit for you.

Remember, while it's useful to initially search by state when looking for colleges, it's equally crucial to consider other essential factors like your intended major, school size, extracurricular opportunities, financial aid availability, and the school's overall fit for your academic and personal needs. Good luck with your college search!
