What Majors Does Soka University Offer?

I've come across Soka University in my college search journey. What majors can you study there? Is their faculty known for expertise in a specific field? If anybody has any information about their programs, that'd be cool!

Soka University of America, based in Aliso Viejo, California, is a liberal arts college that offers an individualized and integrated approach to your studies. Initially, this school might seem to have a limited number of majors because they only offer a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts degree. But don't be fooled; the focus and strength of the curriculum lie in its concentration areas that are divided into equally progressive and wide-ranging fields.

You can select one or two concentrations from five areas: Environmental Studies, International Studies, Humane Studies, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Life Sciences. These concentrations allow you to dive deeper into the specific areas of interest within the broader umbrella of liberal arts.

For example, if you're interested in global affairs, you might pursue a concentration in International Studies which includes sub-areas such as political science, economics, and anthropology. If your passion lies in psychology or sociology, then Social and Behavioral Sciences could be your fit.

Regarding faculty expertise, Soka holds a strong reputation in International Studies, given its mission of fostering global citizens. That said, it's beneficial to remember that while faculty expertise can enhance your educational experience, the liberal arts focus also encourages exploration, critical thinking, and breadth in studies that transcend a single discipline.

In terms of strengths, Soka is known for its small student-to-faculty ratio, making it possible for students to get individualized support and mentoring. Additionally, all students spend a semester abroad, which can further enrich your learning experience especially if you're focused in International Studies or a related discipline.

Soka is small but mighty, packing in a potent, holistic educational approach under the broad umbrella of a Liberal Arts degree. So, even though the list of traditional 'majors' might not be lengthy, the opportunities for students to develop and specialize in real-world relevant areas of study are immense.
