Understanding UNCC admissions

I've been checking out the University of North Carolina at Charlotte recently, mainly because I'm really interested in their engineering majors. To anyone who's applied to UNCC: what stuff do the admissions officers look for? Does having a strong background in maths and sciences really up your chances?
