I'm currently looking into UC San Diego. If anyone has personal experiences or honest reviews, especially about the academic environment and faculty, could you share?

UC San Diego (UCSD) ranks among the top public institutions in the United States and is known for its focus on research and innovation. Despite its large size, class sizes tend to be relatively small which may help to cultivate a more focused learning environment.

For academics, UCSD hosts six undergraduate colleges, each with its unique general education requirements and atmosphere. This structure creates a smaller-community feeling within the larger university. The school is particularly renowned for its STEM programs, with top-notch programs in biology, bioengineering, health sciences, and neuroscience, to name a few.

In terms of faculty, many professors at UCSD are leading researchers in their fields which can be a significant boon for students interested in research opportunities. However, the dynamic often varies by department and individuals. As it is a research-focused institution, some students feel that professors can at times be more engaged with their research than teaching. Office hours and teaching assistants can be very helpful resources to supplement your learning.
