Does any military branch assist with med school expenses?

Hi all, so I've been thinking a lot recently about med school after high school. I know this option is expensive and I was curious if there are any military branches that might help out with the costs? Appreciate any insights!

Yes, actually, several branches of the U.S. military do offer assistance with medical school expenses.

The Navy, for example, offers the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which pays for 100% of your med school tuition, covers your medical insurance for school, and provides a monthly stipend for 48 months. Similarly, the Army offers the same HPSP benefits, including the full-tuition coverage, a signing bonus, and a monthly stipend during your time in school.

In addition to the Navy and Army, the Air Force also offers the same HPSP program, so there are actually several military options for you to pursue that offer financial aid for medical school.

But it's also essential to understand that these programs typically require a service commitment after you complete your education. For example, the HPSP typically expects a year of active-duty service for each year of scholarship with a minimum obligation of three years.

While it can be a great way to get through medical school without the astronomical costs, do take into consideration the time commitment after completing your degree. Consider your long-term career goals and personal life circumstances before deciding to pursue this path.
