What's 'Delta Company' in Military?

Hey, I've heard the term 'Delta Company' quite often in military conversations but not quite sure what it means. Can someone shed some light on which military branch it relates to?

Delta Company is a common denomination for one of the subunits of a battalion within the military organizational structure. In other words, it's a term that defines a specific group within a larger unit. These subunits are often termed in alphabetical order (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, etc.), so Delta Company would generally be the fourth subunit within a battalion.

This terminology isn't unique to one branch of the U.S military but is used across many, including the Army, Marine Corps, and other military establishments. In any of these branches, the actual function and size of Delta Company can vary based on its specific role within the battalion. Some companies might be comprised of infantry, while others might be ordnance or support companies. What specifically Delta Company refers to can vary a lot depending on the context.

It's important to note that beyond the traditional battalion structure, "Delta" is also used in the names of some specialized units. Perhaps the most well-known of these is the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, more commonly known as Delta Force, which is an elite special mission unit of the United States Army. But in everyday military parlance, usually, "Delta Company" would just refer to a standard company within a larger battalion.
