Military and SCRA - Who's Covered?

Hi everyone! Considering joining the military after high school and I've been hearing a lot about the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). I was wondering which branches of the military are covered by SCRA? It would give me a better insight into what benefits one can expect.

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) offers certain protections and benefits to many service members. These protections range from interest rate reductions to eviction protection, and they're designed to ease the financial and legal burdens for those on active duty.

Coverage under the SCRA extends to members of the United States military across all branches. This means that regardless of whether you choose to serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, you're covered under the SCRA. In addition to these traditional branches, the act also encompasses the members of the Reserve components when they're on active duty and the National Guard when serving in an active duty status under federal orders.

Remember, the newly instituted U.S. Space Force constitutes the sixth branch of the military and personnel serving in it are also covered under the SCRA.

Keep in mind, the benefits of the SCRA are only applicable when you are on active duty. Once your active duty service ends, those specific protections expire as well, although a few provisions extend beyond the end of service— it's definitely worth researching these details as you consider your options. Best of luck with your decision!
