Applying to Tuskegee University

I'm nearing application season and Tuskegee University has caught my attention. For those who go there or have gone there, what are some things that make it stand out for you? What's life like on campus, and how are the academics? Thanks in advance!

Tuskegee University is steeped in history—it's known for great contributions to the civil rights movement due to work by Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver, among others. This adds a great deal of depth to the education there; Tuskegee isn't just a place to learn your major, but also a place where you can explore broader societal issues, implications, and history.

The campus community is quite close-knit, which is perhaps a result of its medium size and relatively remote location in Alabama. Students tend to support each other whether it's cheering on the Golden Tigers at a football game, helping somebody study for an exam, or collaborating on a project. It offers an environment where opportunities both academically and personally can flourish.

Academics, in particular, are well-regarded, especially in STEM and healthcare fields. Tuskegee is one of the top producers of African American aerospace science engineers and veterinarians. The academic programs are rigorous and you'll encounter professors that are both challenging and supportive.

Do remember, college fit is subjective, and everyone's perspective may not align with your own interests or priorities. In addition to hearing from others, try to visit the school (if possible) or do virtual tours, speak with current students or alumni, and delve deep into the school's website to learn as much as you can. You might also consider reaching out to the university's admissions office with any specific questions or concerns.
