Need recommendations for universities in Nacogdoches, TX

Hi there! I'm a rising junior in Texas and I’ve been considering staying in-state for college, particularly in Nacogdoches. Can anyone recommend any universities in this area, specifically schools that are strong in humanities? Thanks in advance!

In Nacogdoches, Texas, your primary option is Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA). This public university offers a wide range of programs, and it's particularly known for its programs in the liberal arts and sciences, which include various humanities disciplines. You could major in anything from Philosophy to English, History to Languages, Cultures and Communication.

What's more, SFA has several research and cultural centers, including the Center for Regional Heritage Research and the East Texas Historical Association, which could provide opportunities for engaging with humanities disciplines outside of the classroom.

However, if you're open to a small commute, Sam Houston State University in Huntsville is a bit over an hour away. It also has a solid range of humanities programs.

But remember, it's not just about where you study – it's about how you study. For instance, you'll want to consider how you can dive deeper into your chosen field. This could involve looking at opportunities for undergraduate research, studying abroad, or participating in community-based learning programs.

As always, it's a good idea to visit the campus of any university you're considering (if possible). You can also "visit" virtually through online tours and engaging with admission representatives. This way, you can not only gain a feel for campus culture, but also get any of your specific questions answered. Try to talk to current students or alumni if you can, as they can provide a wealth of firsthand information about the university.
