2.84 GPA: How harmful for college applications?

Hey, everyone. My current GPA is 2.84 and I'm starting to stress about how this might impact my upcoming college applications. Can someone tell me whether this GPA is significant enough to hurt my chances? Are there any strategies I could use to mitigate this?
