Impact of 1200 SAT score on college admissions?

Hi all, I just received my SAT scores and highly anxious as the score turned out 1200. I'm curious, what percentile does a 1200 SAT score fall into? How does this influence my chances for college admission? Bit worried here.

A score of 1200 is roughly in the 76th percentile, which means you performed better than around 76% of the students who took the test. However, keep in mind that how this score affects your college admissions prospects greatly depends on the schools you're applying to.

For example, if you're aiming for highly selective schools, a 1200 SAT score may not be competitive. Most of these schools have middle 50% SAT scores in the 1300-1500 range, meaning that the majority of admitted students score within that range. Keep in mind, however, that standardized test scores are just one facet of your application, and schools also take into account your GPA, essays, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.

For less selective schools, a 1200 SAT score could be more competitive. Indeed, for many schools, this score could be above their average, which could raise your chances of admission.

One thing you could consider is retaking the SAT if you're not satisfied with your score and you believe you can improve. You may want to focus on test prep, working on areas where you might have struggled. Don't forget that some schools are also test-optional, meaning that they do not require you to submit SAT or ACT scores.

No matter what, focus on putting forward your best application, highlighting your strengths, passions, and accomplishments. And remember, college admissions isn't solely about numbers, it's also about you as an individual.
