High school film classes - are they worth it?

Has anyone taken a film class as one of their electives in high school? I'm considering it, but I want to make sure it’s a good use of my time, especially considering college applications. Would love to hear your thoughts on the benefits or any potential college credit!

It's great that you're thinking ahead about how your high school course choices might impact your future, especially with college applications on the horizon. As a high school film class can be both an enriching educational experience and a means to explore your interests deeply. If you have a passion for film and storytelling, such a class could help you develop this interest further, which could then be reflected in your college applications. Remember, colleges appreciate when students have pursued their genuine interests and can show a depth of engagement. Moreover, a film class could potentially become a springboard for related extracurricular activities — maybe you'll start a film club or help produce a school play! As for college credit, that will depend on the high school’s offerings and the policies of the colleges you apply to. Some schools may offer dual enrollment with local colleges for film studies, or AP credits if available. However, credits should be a secondary concern to the personal and intellectual growth you could experience. If you love the subject, it might be a perfect fit, and it could certainly add a unique element to your application. Trust your interests, and choose electives that align with them!
