Boston's been on my radar recently as I plan for college. I know it's a huge college city, but could anyone tell me how many colleges and universities there actually are in Boston?
Boston is often referred to as "the Athens of America" because of its high density of colleges and universities. There are about 35 colleges, universities, and institutes of higher learning within the city limits. This includes some of the most prestigious and well-known educational institutions in the country, such as Harvard, MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern University, to name a few.
That being said, if you expand the radius to include the Greater Boston area, you'll find more than 50 schools. This addition includes places like Tufts University in Medford and Bentley University in Waltham.
Each of these institutions offers its own unique strengths, programs, and campus culture. What they collectively provide is a vibrant and interconnected community of scholars, which is part of what earns Boston its reputation as a significant educational hub.
