Pre-Med in California

Hello! Anyone know the best colleges in California for a pre-med track? I've heard a lot of conflicting advice, and would love to get some first-hand information from people who've actually experienced it. Thanks for the help!

Hello! In terms of offering a solid pre-med track, there are several great colleges to look into in California.

Stanford University stands out with its strong science curriculum and its proximity to one of the top medical schools. Students often get to engage with medical research opportunities and gain clinical experience at Stanford's prestigious medical school.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) offer robust pre-med tracks with strong science departments. Both these schools provide research opportunities due to their close ties with their respective medical schools: the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and the UCSF School of Medicine.

The University of Southern California (USC) also offers a distinctive health and humanities major for pre-med students interested in a more interdisciplinary pathway. USC's Keck School of Medicine provides opportunities for volunteer work, internships, and research positions as well.

Beyond academics and research, bear in mind the level of support for pre-med students, in terms of advising and resources for medical school application, as well as opportunities for volunteering and shadowing in healthcare. So, it's key to explore not only the academic strength of the college but also its provisions for clinical experiences and guidance.

Remember, in the end, the 'best' college will depend on your specific goals, needs, and desired learning environment, so make sure to consider fit in all aspects. Good luck with your search!
