Best Texas colleges for a pre-med major?

Hi peeps! I'm exploring the pre-med track and I live in Texas. It's still my junior year in high school, but I want to know now - which are the best Texas colleges for a pre-med major? I want to get a head start on checking requirements and stuff. Appreciate your thoughts on this!

Hello! That's a great initiative to begin looking into options for colleges with excellent pre-med programs in Texas. As a pre-med student, you'll want to focus on colleges that not only have rigorous science-based curricula but also opportunities for hands-on clinical experience, research, and advising or other support to help you navigate the med school application process.

One prominent college in Texas known for its strong programs in the sciences and pre-medical preparation is Rice University. While Rice doesn't have a specific pre-med major (it's actually uncommon for colleges to have these), the school does provide a pre-med advising program and plenty of opportunities for research and hospital volunteering. Biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and neuroscience are some of the popular majors for pre-med students at Rice.

The University of Texas at Austin also offers strong programs in biology, human biology, and biochemistry. Additionally, they have a health pre-professions office that provides advising, helps with med school applications, and organizes events with medical school admissions officers.

Baylor University in Waco is another option. Baylor offers a Medical Humanities program, a unique multi-disciplinary pre-med program that combines the study of medicine with study in the humanities and ethics.

Remember, the "best" pre-med program for you depends on personal preference. Each school offers distinct advantages and experiences. Look for programs that offer strong support for your unique career goals, as well as opportunities for research, volunteering or shadowing in healthcare settings, and a strong advising or mentorship program to guide you in the med school application process. Good luck with your college search!
