How's the music scene at colleges in New York?

Hey everyone! I'm a junior currently exploring potential colleges. Music is a big part of my life and I'm considering pursuing it in college. Could anyone share some info about the music programs at colleges in New York? Any hidden gems out there?

New York is a great place for students interested in music, with a multitude of schools offering strong music programs. You'll have access to endless music-related opportunities, experiences, and resources.

Starting with Juilliard, it's one of the world's most renowned music schools, particularly for classical training. Another leading program is at Manhattan School of Music. If you're interested in Jazz, then you would greatly benefit from their outstanding Jazz program.

In terms of colleges with excellent music programs that are not dedicated solely to music, Columbia University is a great choice. Aside from having a solid music program, the school ensures an excellent liberal arts foundation. You'll also find strong music departments at New York University (particularly acclaimed for Music Technology) and Fordham University, which both offer a wide variety of music-related courses and degrees.

For a more out-of-the-box choice, consider The New School's College of Performing Arts, with three renowned schools in its system: Mannes School of Music, the School of Drama, and the School of Jazz. They have a vibrant and multifaceted music scene that promotes collaboration across disciplines and styles.

Finally, for a less traditional path, the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts is worth looking into. It's designed for those seeking professional careers in the music industry and offers rigorous training in musicianship and music production.

So, as you can see, New York City offers a plethora of opportunities for music enthusiasts, with programs to fit a variety of musical interests and career aspirations. I recommend diving deeper into each of these programs to see which might align best with your interests and goals.

If you're looking for ways to pursue your passion for music while still in high school, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which lists a range of music-related summer programs for high schoolers: https://blog.collegevine.com/high-school-summer-music-programs/. Participating in one will allow you to network with current music professionals and educators, who can give you more personalized guidance on which undergraduate institution would be right for you.

Participating in one could even give you a boost during the college process, as admissions officers love to see that you're taking initiative and exploring your interests outside of the classroom!
