Colleges in Orange County, New York

I'm trying to stay local for college and I'm curious -- what colleges are there in Orange County, New York? Got any suggestions? Also, if anyone has experience with those colleges, thoughts?

In Orange County, New York, there are several colleges you can consider. Here are some options:

1. Orange County Community College (SUNY Orange)

2. Mount Saint Mary College

3. United States Military Academy at West Point

SUNY Orange is a community college, offering a wide range of associate degree programs and several certificate programs. It tends to be a popular choice for local students because it provides a cost-efficient way to earn college credits that can be transferred to a four-year institution later on.

Mount Saint Mary College is a private, liberal arts college. It offers a wide range of undergraduate programs and is known for its Nursing, Social Sciences, and Business programs. The student-to-faculty ratio is lower here, so you're more likely to get individual attention.

The United States Military Academy at West Point offers a sturdy program that combines academic, physical, and military instruction. It’s designed to build well-rounded leaders who are prepared for careers in the military, though many graduates have ended up in prestigious positions outside the military as well. This would be a great option if you're interested in serving in the military.

Each school offers a very different atmosphere, so it might be worthwhile to do additional research to see what feels like the best fit for you. When doing your research, consider things like class size, available majors, campus amenities, and financial aid opportunities.

I've heard from multiple students who were happy with their choice to stay local, as it has allowed them to save money and stay close to family and familiar surroundings. But as always, the best college for you depends on your personal needs, academic interests, and career goals. Good luck in your college search!
