Government and Military, Who Handles What?

Hey guys, I'm doing a paper for my Gov class and I'm having some trouble determining which branch of government handles military affairs. Any civics buffs out there who could help me out?

In the United States, military affairs are primarily handled by the Federal Government, specifically the Executive Branch headed by the President. The President acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. This role includes making key decisions about national defense and security, and the power to declare war (although this requires Congressional approval).

Defense policy and military administration are also overseen by the Department of Defense (DoD), a part of the Executive Branch. The Secretary of Defense, who is appointed by the President and approved by the Senate, leads the DoD.

However, it's important to note that Congress, a part of the Legislative Branch, also has substantial power over military affairs. According to the U.S. Constitution, Congress has the power to declare war, to raise and support the Armed Forces, to provide and maintain a Navy, and make rules for the governance and regulation of the military. Congress also controls the defense budget.

This separation of powers ensures that the military is accountable to civilian governance and that no single branch of government has unchecked control over the country's armed forces.
