Which military branch spends the most?

Hi guys, just trying to understand more about the military world. Does anyone know which branch of the military spends the most money, and what do they spend it on primarily? This could give me an idea about their priorities and structure.

By budget size, the Department of Defense (DoD) branch that spends the most is typically the US Army, followed by the US Navy, the US Air Force, and lastly the Marine Corps. However, it’s crucial to point out that budget sizes can fluctuate from year to year. The Space Force, as the newest branch, has a separate but significantly smaller budget.

Each branch allocates its budget differently, but these are some general areas where spending is focused:

1. Personnel costs: Including salaries, healthcare, and retirement benefits.

2. Operations and Maintenance: For example, maintaining and fueling vehicles, facilities, and equipment; performing regular training exercises; providing food and housing; and more.

3. Research and Development: Testing new technology and equipment, and potentially developing new weapons systems or platforms.

4. Procurement: The purchasing of new equipment, from jets and ships to guns and armor.

It’s important to note that military spending is not necessarily an indicator of the effectiveness or strategic importance of a military branch. They each have distinct roles with different needs and resources. Therefore, each branch's budget is designed to fund its unique strategic role and mission, not perfectly correlate to its effectiveness or importance.
