Admiral Rank in Military Branches?

Hey people! I'm seriously contemplating a career in the military after high school graduation. Been doing my homework but got stuck on something. Which specific military branches use the rank of Admiral? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hello there! It's wonderful to hear about your interest in a military career. To answer your question, the rank of Admiral is used in the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, as well as in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps.

In these branches, Admiral is typically a high senior rank, often the highest achievable. It's equivalent to the rank of General in the other branches. The Admiral rank is further subdivided into multiple levels in the Navy and Coast Guard: Rear Admiral (lower half), Rear Admiral (upper half), Vice Admiral, and Admiral, and even the special rank of Fleet Admiral, although the latter is not in general use today.

It's also worth noting that while the other branches of military service (Army, Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps) do not use the term "Admiral", they have equivalent ranks. For example, the equivalent to Admiral in those services is the rank of General.

Best of luck in your future military career!
