Looking for Pre-med colleges in New York

Hey all, I'm currently in my junior year and really interested in pursuing a career in medicine. My goal is to stay in New York for college because it's home. Any thoughts on which colleges in New York have strong pre-med programs? Any insights would really help!

Hello! It's wonderful to hear that you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. A few New York colleges that are known for their strong pre-med programs are:

1. Columbia University: The pre-med curriculum here is especially rigorous and comprehensive, with numerous opportunities for students to conduct research and gain practical experience in Manhattan's extensive network of hospitals and labs.

2. New York University: NYU has a highly respected program and a fantastic medical school (NYU Grossman School of Medicine). Pre-med students benefit from being in the same institution and having access to facilities.

3. University of Rochester: Its College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering offers pre-med advising and has courses necessary for medical school prerequisites.

4. Cornell University: While it's not in NYC, it's still in New York state and has a strong pre-med program known for its research opportunities and medical school acceptance rates.

5. Binghamton University: This SUNY school offers a dedicated pre-med advising and well-regarded health sciences programs for a more affordable tuition.

One tip is to look at each college's websites and see what the pre-med advising is like. Do they have resources or staff committed to helping pre-med students? Also, investigate opportunities for research, internships, and other hands-on experiences related to medicine.

Remember, it's about how the college can best prepare you for medical school - that includes strong foundational knowledge in the sciences, research opportunities, and a setting where you can best achieve your academic potential. Keep in mind, every pre-med's journey is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to colleges. Good luck on your search!
