What's campus life like at UMass Lowell?

Going through my college options and can't find enough firsthand accounts for UMass Lowell's campus life. If anyone's a current student or alum, I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks!

UMass Lowell boasts a diverse and active campus life that caters to many tastes and interests. There are over 200 student organizations, so you're likely to find a club or society that matches your interests - from professional organizations and honor societies to community service groups, cultural clubs, and intramural sports. Participation in these groups can offer you a chance to establish connections, build upon existing interests, or discover new hobbies.

The university housing is quite noteworthy as there are three residential campuses - East, South, and North. Each campus has multiple dormitories and apartment-style housing options. Living on campus is highly encouraged for first-year students because it allows them to immerse themselves in the university environment and make friends.

Regarding it's academic atmosphere, it's generally relaxed yet productive. While the academics are rigorous, there's also a supportive vibe among the students. Many of my peers cooperate on assignments and projects and often form study groups, which can be helpful around midterms and finals.

In terms of what to do on weekends, there are sporting events that are popular, especially hockey games. UMass Lowell's River Hawks play in the NCAA Division I, which is quite a thrill to watch. Plus, there are various activities hosted by the university that keeps the campus lively like concerts, guest lectures, movie nights, and more.

Finally, the location itself is quite advantageous as it's a short drive from Boston where you can explore museums, cafes, shopping, and more. Also, Lowell holds its own charm with its blend of urban elements and open spaces. The Merrimack River that flows through campus provides a lovely backdrop and a serene spot for students looking for a quiet place to relax or study.
