Upper Iowa University (UIU) is a private institution located in Fayette, Iowa. It has a well-regarded Environmental Science program, which builds knowledge on biological, physical and social sciences and allows students to gain an integrated understanding of environmental issues. An interesting feature of the program is that a large portion of your learning will likely take place outside of the traditional classroom through field work and research projects.

Circling to the university as a whole, one of the distinctive features of UIU is its flexible learning model which allows students to take classes on-campus, online, or at one of their educational centers, and these options can be mixed and matched to fit your individual needs as a student.

Socially, the university offers a variety of extracurricular opportunities. There are over 50 student organizations, clubs, and intramural sports that you can participate in. And for those interested in varsity sports, UIU fields 15 athletic teams in the NCAA Division II. The university's campus is located in a rural setting which can be a positive or a negative depending on your personal preferences.

As for your desired major of Environmental Science, I would recommend reaching out to the department directly to gain a comprehensive understanding of the program. You might be able to connect with current students or alumni who can give you personal insights about their experiences.

Remember, it's also important to consider other factors like class size, faculty to student ratio, the financial aspect, and opportunities for internships or research in your decision process. If possible, you may want to plan a visit to the campus to get a better feel for the college environment.

Lastly, note that UIU has rolling admissions, which means applications are reviewed continuously until all spots in the program are filled. Therefore, applying earlier may give you an advantage. Good luck with your college search!
