Life at Alma College

Hello, I've been thinking about applying to Alma College and honestly, it's the campus life aspect that really appeals to me. Can any current students or alumni share their experiences on what living on campus at Alma is like?

Hello! Although I'm not a student or alumnus of Alma College itself, I've heard quite a bit about what life on campus can be like. Alma College is a small, residential, private liberal arts university, which results in a close-knit community vibe on campus. Since it's situated in a small town, there's a kind of intimacy and camaraderie that you might not find at larger institutions.

One thing I often hear about is the school spirit that's abundant on campus. The plaid traditions, which stems from the college's Scottish roots, really bring the student body together, especially during Plaid Days and other school-wide events.

As for academic life, it's driven by Alma College’s 4-4-1 calendar which includes two 14-week semesters and a one-month “Spring Term” in May. During this term, you can take just one intensive class or even participate in a travel course. The school's emphasis on experiential learning means you get a lot of hands-on opportunities, field study, and direct engagement with your studies.

On-campus living is required for the majority of students, and Alma offers a variety of housing options, from traditional residence halls to Greek houses and theme halls. These smaller living-learning communities often host specific events and activities, so you can grow more deeply involved in your interests even outside of the classroom.

Outdoor activities are very popular due to the college's location. There's easy access to natural areas for hiking, camping, and other outdoor recreation. Plus, the Pine River runs right through town, making for some beautiful views and opportunities for water sports.

Again, this is a general overview of campus life based on what I've learned, so it might still be good to connect with an actual student or alumnus from Alma to get the most accurate picture. But I do hope this gives you a sense of life at Alma College!
