Getting an Architecture degree in Georgia

Anyone obtained their Architecture degree in Georgia? I'm wondering about the pros and cons of the programs available there. I would also appreciate to know more about the job prospects post-graduation.

There are several schools with reputable architecture programs in Georgia, with the most notable being Georgia Tech and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Georgia Tech's program is consistently ranked highly nationally and is lauded for its robust curriculum and strong emphasis on technology and sustainability. It offers both Bachelor and Master programs in architecture. The program provides a good foundation in both the theory and practice of architecture, with opportunities for specialized research or design work. Additionally, Atlanta is a city with a booming construction industry, offering students of architecture substantial real-world exposure and networking opportunities.

On the other hand, SCAD offers a unique, artistic approach to architecture through their program. The curriculum focuses on creating aesthetically pleasing and innovative designs. SCAD also emphasizes areas like history of architecture, urban design, and architectural theory, as well as software such as CAD (computer-aided design) and other visualization software.

Both schools have strong job placement rates upon graduation, given the growing demand for architects. Alumni have ended up in various cities across the U.S., as well as globally. So, you're not necessarily confined to working solely in Georgia after graduation, although Atlanta itself does present a thriving job market for architects.

On the con side, it’s important to remember that architecture is a demanding field of study that often requires a heavy course load and intensive work outside of the classroom. Notably, the programs can be expensive, especially at private institutions like SCAD.

Overall, job prospects post-graduation should be promising, as Atlanta and other large cities continue to grow and redevelop, demanding fresh architectural perspectives. This demand is not just confined to Georgia however, graduates can find opportunities across the country and even abroad. Many graduates also pursue their own independent design practices or work for architectural consultancies.
