Curious about DC area colleges and universities

Hey, I'm hoping to stay close to home for college, and I live in the DC area. Can anyone give me some advice or info on what the top colleges and universities in the DC area are like?

Sure, the DC area has a good variety of colleges and universities that offer a wide range of academic programs. I'll give you a quick overview of some of the top institutions in the area.

1. Georgetown University: Prestigious and highly selective, Georgetown is known for its School of Foreign Service, Business School, and Law School. The campus is beautiful and situated in a historic neighborhood of DC with access to all the cultural and political opportunities the city offers.

2. George Washington University (GW): Located at the heart of DC, GW has strong programs in International Relations, Political Science, and Journalism. It offers students great opportunities for internships given its proximity to a multitude of governmental, non-governmental, and media outlets.

3. American University: AU is another DC school with strong Political Science and International Relations programs. It's known for being very politically active and has an especially hands-on journalism program. The campus is a bit removed from central DC but still offers easy access to the city.

4. University of Maryland, College Park: Although not in DC proper, this large public university is within driving distance of the city. It has strong programs particularly in Engineering, Computer Science, and Business.

5. Howard University: One of the top historically Black universities, Howard offers a wide range of programs. It's particularly known for its programs in communications, health sciences, and pre-law/pre-med. The Howard campus is also located in the heart of DC.

Each of these schools will offer you a different experience, so it really depends on what you're looking for. Make sure to consider what types of academic programs, sizes, and campus environments (for instance, urban campus vs traditional campus) appeal to you when researching these schools.
