Costs associated with double majoring at U of M?

I'm considering a double major if I go to the University of Michigan, but I was wondering if double majoring typically leads to higher tuition or fees? Or is it the same as a single major? Any input would mean a lot to me.

At the University of Michigan, you typically won't end up paying extra tuition or fees purely for double-majoring. Tuition at UMich is generally charged as a flat rate for full-time undergraduate students taking between 12 and 18 credits per semester, regardless of whether you have one major, two, or even more.

However, completing the requirements for a double major might mean that you have to take a heavy course load in some semesters or maybe even stay for an extra semester or year at the university. In this scenario, one potential additional cost could be more semesters of tuition if you need to continue studies beyond the typical four years to meet all your program requirements.

Furthermore, depending on what you plan on double-majoring in, there could potentially be some higher costs for materials or specific class fees in some majors. For instance, programs like art, architecture, engineering, or physical sciences might require additional materials or have specific lab fees that could raise the cost.

Overall, it's a good idea to plan out your course sequence early and check with your academic advisor to make sure you can complete all the requirements within your desired timeframe. Remember to account for potential prerequisites and make sure that course offerings align with your plan.

Finally, on a separate note, if you end up applying to Michigan and want tips on how to maximize your chances of acceptance, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-university-of-michigan-essays/. The essays are a great place to provide a more comprehensive perspective on your candidacy, beyond the numbers - you could even discuss your interest in double-majoring!

Good luck with your college process!
