Chance of Getting into Middlebury?

I'm planning on applying to Middlebury College and I've been looking at their admission rate quite a bit. I know the selection is really competitive, but can anyone provide any insights on the general stats of the accepted students and other factors they seriously consider?

Middlebury College is indeed a competitive college with an acceptance rate hovering around 10%. Keep in mind these numbers fluctuate annually and may be lower for regular decision applicants as compared to early decision applicants.

Typically, successful Middlebury applicants have excellent academic records. The average high school GPA for incoming first-year students is usually around 3.9+ (unweighted). SAT and ACT scores are also influential, the middle 50% SAT scores of admitted students were usually within the range of 1400-1530, and ACT scores were generally in the 33-34 range.

Middlebury, like many highly selective institutions, conducts a holistic review of all applications. This means they are not only looking for strong academic performances, but also for students who have demonstrated interest and achievement in other areas, including extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership, and more.

Speaking of extracurriculars, Middlebury likes to see students who have excelled in a few focused areas that align with their interests and career goals—a philosophy often referred to as having a "spike" instead of being "well-rounded".

The school is also keen on understanding your personal reasons for choosing Middlebury specifically. Essays that articulate why you and Middlebury are a great fit tend to stand out. Additionally, letters of recommendation that speak to your character, resilience, and intellectual curiosity can make an impact.

Finally, if you're applying for financial aid, Middlebury may consider this as it's not a need-blind institution.

Remember, ultimately the exact cutoffs or averages that determine admission can vary from year to year depending on the applicant pool. Make sure you also focus on fit—choosing a college that best suits your personal needs and career goals is crucial.
