Martial arts and military service?

Hello, I’ve been practicing martial arts for a few years and would love to continue in some capacity if I decide to enlist. Does any particular US military branch emphasize martial arts in their training programs?

Each branch of the United States military has its own form of martial arts training. However, the type and intensity of training can vary considerably depending on the branch.

The Marine Corps have the longest standing martial arts program, the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). It incorporates elements from various martial arts disciplines such as wrestling, boxing, judo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This program is a comprehensive combat system that emphasizes both lethal and non-lethal techniques, mental discipline, and character development.

The Army developed the Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP) which primarily bases itself on Brazilian jiu-jitsu but includes techniques from wrestling, judo, and boxing as well. This program was incorporated into the basic training curriculum with the goal of ensuring every soldier is proficient in hand-to-hand combat.

The Navy SEAL program also includes martial arts training as part of their regimen. Their style is a blend of various martial arts to form a unique system known as SEALFIT. It includes elements of muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and various weaponry techniques.

The Air Force and Space Force, on the other hand, might not have as extensive hand-to-hand combat training, but they do provide self-defense training and basic ground combat skills.

In conclusion, if you are interested in a military career that heavily emphasizes martial arts, you might consider the Marine Corps, Army, or Navy. It would be beneficial to research each branch's programs and their approaches to martial arts for a comprehensive understanding. Additionally, your decision should also consider other factors such as your long-term career goals, the roles each branch plays in the military, and their specific enlistment requirements.
