Living Nearby Bronx Fordham University

Been considering Bronx Fordham University for a while, but I'm not exactly sure what to expect from being in the Bronx. How is it living there, or nearby for off-campus options? Can anyone familiar with the area chime in?

Sure, I can share some details just based on the general consensus of those who live in and around the Bronx. Fordham University is in a residential neighborhood, and the campus is somewhat insulated from the bustle of the rest of the Bronx because its buildings are enclosed by a gate, giving it a more subdued, serene feel.

The surrounding neighborhood, Fordham Road, has plenty to offer both in terms of local shops as well as larger retail stores. There are plenty of places for grocery shopping, numerous restaurants serving different cuisines, and several shopping centers. One of the biggest draws to Fordham is its proximity to the New York Botanical Garden - it's essentially right next to campus, and students can visit for free!

Living off-campus might differ depending on the area. Generally, housing near the university tends to be safe, although as with any city, it's always essential to maintain personal safety and be aware of your surroundings.

The overall community is generally friendly and welcoming. Plus, being in New York City, you're just a subway ride away from all activities - be it sporting events, concerts, or visiting museums. Fordham has its own stop on the Metro North rail system and lots of bus services, and there's also plenty of fantastic cultural diversity to explore right around campus.

However, noise could be a factor depending on where exactly you choose to live. The area around Fordham Road is a bustling commercial strip which gets quite lively and noisy at times. It's a good idea to visit, explore around a bit, and maybe even chat with some locals to get a feel for the place if you have the chance. A lot about the enjoyment of a place comes down to personal preference and adaptation, but many college students definitely feel Fordham is a great place to spend four years.

If you do end up applying to Fordham and want tips on how to maximize your chances of acceptance, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-fordham-university-essays/. Indeed, the prompts often focus on the sense of place students find at Fordham, so researching for your response could prove to be a great way of learning more about the area!

Good luck with your college search!
