What’s in the air at Scripps College?

Looking at universities and Scripps College caught my attention quite a bit. Could anyone tell me about its location? How about the weather, transportation, campus safety, or other points I should consider before applying?

Scripps College is located in Claremont, California, which is part of the Greater Los Angeles area. Despite this proximity, Claremont has a small-town feel, and the campus itself is surrounded by a quiet, residential neighborhood. The college is also part of the Claremont Colleges Consortium, which includes five undergraduate colleges (Pomona, Pitzer, Harvey Mudd, Claremont McKenna, and Scripps) and two graduate institutions, all adjacent to each other. This provides a lot of opportunities for interaction and collaboration among the students from these colleges.

As for weather, Southern California is known for its mild, Mediterranean climate. It generally has dry, hot summers and wet, cooler winters, but the temperature is fairly pleasant year-round.The college itself is a pedestrian campus, meaning that it can be easily navigated on foot or by bicycle. However, if you want to explore outside of Claremont or need to travel to the airport, having a car can be beneficial. Public transportation options include the Metrolink train station in Claremont that connects with downtown Los Angeles.

In terms of safety, Scripps College and the greater Claremont community tend to have lower crime rates compared to the rest of Los Angeles County. That being said, it's still important for students to take standard safety precautions, like locking their doors and avoiding walking alone late at night. As an all-women's institution, be aware that the environment at Scripps will be different from a co-ed school.
