USC recommendation letters help?

I'm applying to the University of Southern California, and I know they require recommendation letters. But I'm not really sure who I should ask? Are there any specifics I should know about?

When you're applying to the University of Southern California (USC), it's key to understand that recommendation letters can provide a valuable context to your application by offering more personal insights about your character, work ethic, and school involvement.

USC requires one recommendation from a teacher of one of your junior or senior year major academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, or a foreign language). This teacher should ideally be someone who knows you well and can speak not only to your academic abilities but also your character, determination, and potential contributions to USC's community. Some questions they might address could include: How does this student handle challenges or setbacks? How have they grown over the year(s)? What distinguishes this student from their peers?

An additional counselor recommendation is also required, who provides a broader picture of your high school years, involvement in school and community activities, and growth over time. They can also mention any personal circumstances that have impacted your academic performance.

If you're considering getting an additional recommendation letter outside these requirements, make sure the person has a unique perspective that adds something new to your application. This could be a coach, employer, extracurricular adviser, or mentor who can give deeper insight into your special interests or commitments. Remember, quantity doesn't outweigh quality. What the recommender says about you is far more important than their title.

Important tip: I would advise you to ask your recommenders early (at least a few weeks before the deadline), show them your resume so they have a comprehensive understanding of your achievements and goals, and thank them properly.

Good luck with your application to USC!
