Waitlisted at UVA?

I'm starting to get concerned: what happens if I get waitlisted from the University of Virginia. Can anyone share their experiences or give some advice on what to do?

I understand that being put on the waitlist can feel disappointing, but don't lose hope just yet. A spot on the waitlist means you're still in consideration! It's also important to realize that waitlists can be unpredictable, so it's necessary to continue with other plans in parallel.

Firstly, if you're still very keen on attending UVA after you've been waitlisted, make sure to accept your place on the waitlist. This step is crucial as it lets the university know you're still interested. Next, you might consider drafting a letter of continued interest (LOCI) to the admissions committee. In this, you can articulate why you’re still passionate about attending UVA, and update them on any significant achievements or developments since you submitted your application. However, be wary of inundating the admissions office with communications.

While waiting for a final decision from UVA, continue with other college plans. If you have received acceptance from other schools, keep those options open. Pay the deposit at another school before the deadline so you have a secured spot somewhere. If you do get admitted to UVA from the waitlist, you would lose your previously deposited amount at the other school but it's a safer route.

Remember that waitlisted does not mean rejected, but also remember to keep exploring your other options. It's good to start thinking about back-up options, but don't freak out yet when you don't know how everything is going to turn out yet!
