Can you earn college credit from AIT military police training?

Hi there, guys! I heard something about being able to earn college credits from AIT military police training. Is this something that's possible, or have I misunderstood? This could be a significant factor in deciding my path after high school. Thanks!

Yes, it is indeed possible to earn college credits for Army Individual Training (AIT) in military police and many other military occupations. The American Council on Education (ACE) collaborates with the Department of Defense (DoD) to review military training and experiences, to recommend them for college credit. You'll want to check out the ACE Military Guide, which lists all evaluated military experiences. For each course or occupation, ACE gives a credit recommendation. Your military training and experiences will show up on your Joint Services Transcript (JST), which you can submit to colleges for potential credit. Not all colleges will accept these recommendations for credit, though, so you'll want to check with potential universities about their policies regarding military training credits. Some schools are more generous about awarding credit for military experience and training. Others may limit how much credit you can earn this way, or they may apply the credit as elective credit.

For example, many universities accept 4-6 semester hours in the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category for Military Police training, usually for courses like Introduction to Law Enforcement and Introductory Corrections.

Remember, every university is different, so contact the admissions department or credit evaluation office at the colleges you're considering to find out how they handle ACE credits. Good luck on your journey!
