Describing Babysitting in the Common App Activities Section?

So, I've been babysitting for a couple of years, and it's been a pretty significant part of my life, but I'm not sure how to frame it in my Common App. It's not a club or sport, so how do I make it sound impactful?

Absolutely, babysitting can be a valuable part of your Common App activities section! When describing it, focus on the responsibilities you've taken on and the skills you've developed. For example, managing schedules, creating educational and engaging activities, and handling emergencies all demonstrate maturity, reliability, and leadership. Also, if you've babysat for multiple families or have had long-term assignments, that shows commitment and trustworthiness. Mention the age range of children you've cared for as well. If you've mentored or tutored the children, that's another layer of impact you can highlight. Finally, quantify your experience where possible - how many families have you worked with, and for how many hours per week or years? This gives admissions officers a concrete understanding of your involvement. My own child included babysitting in their application, emphasizing the organization and planning skills required, and received positive feedback from colleges!
