Looking for Small Engineering Colleges

I don't want to drown in large engineering classes, so I'm currently exploring smaller colleges with outstanding engineering programs. Any recommendations?

Absolutely! There are plenty of smaller institutions with exceptional engineering programs. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Harvey Mudd College: This small Claremont, California, school is renowned for its emphasis on STEM education and offers highly-competitive engineering programs. Harvey Mudd offers a general engineering degree, which offers a broad-based approach and allows for significant customization. Despite its small size, the college has extensive resources, often shared with the other Claremont Colleges.

2. Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering: With a focus solely on engineering, Olin's small size allows access to personalized attention from professors. Olin has a project-based curriculum that lets students get hands-on experience starting in their first year.

3. Bucknell University: This university's College of Engineering offers a range of specializations, including chemical, civil and environmental, electrical and computer, and mechanical engineering. The student-faculty ratio is an impressive 9:1.

4. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology: Known exclusively for its engineering, science, and mathematics programs, Rose-Hulman provides a hands-on curriculum with ample accessibility to faculty in relatively small class sizes.

5. Cooper Union: Known for its rigorous engineering programs, Cooper Union small class sizes and urban New York setting provide an exciting setting to pursue engineering.Remember, though, that the size of the college isn't the only consideration. Look at the types of engineering majors and courses offered, the facilities and resources, and the opportunities for internships, research, and co-op work whereby you can acquire hands-on experience. Reach out to current students or admissions representatives to get a better feel of the institution's environment and community. It's vital that you select a college where you feel comfortable and supported.
