Business Psychology at UCSD

I have always been interested in both business and psychology, and UCSD seems to have a strong program in Business Psychology. Does anyone have any insights on this program that they'd like to share? How are the classes, professors, or opportunities such as internships?

The Business Psychology major at UCSD is indeed a unique one that blends the study of business and psychology, providing students a rather holistic understanding of the human elements in a business environment. From what I’ve heard, the classes are often interdisciplinary, diving into topics like organizational behavior, market research, consumer behavior, and human resources. I would note that the coursework can be quite rigorous, given the combination of business, psychology, and some statistics, but this just means that you get a multifaceted education.

As for faculty, UCSD houses diverse professors each equipped with various specialization areas, although it must be remembered that the effectiveness of professors can be subjective and can vary from one student to another. That said, there are plenty of resources to seek help, be it professors, TAs, or fellow students.

In terms of opportunities, UCSD has strong ties with the local community, offering various initiatives such as the UCSD Career Services Center. This resource helps students find internships and jobs and also provides resume workshops, career fairs, and other networking opportunities. Given San Diego’s thriving business community, there are plenty of opportunities for internships and jobs, including startups, tech companies, and more traditional business roles.

You'd also have the chance to join clubs like the Undergraduate Business Network or Psi Chi (the International Honor Society in Psychology) to further expand your learning and network. Joining such clubs can be a great way to make connections, gain leadership experience, and get involved in projects that put the concepts you've learned in class into action.

Overall, it depends on your career goals and interests. If you’re looking to understand how psychology plays a role in a business setting and want to be in a city that has a mix of different industries, Business Psychology at UCSD could be a great fit!
