Cornell Admission Status - How often should I be checking it?

I've applied to Cornell, and now that I'm waiting to hear back from them, I'm checking the admissions status page constantly. How often do they update it?

Admissions portals aren't generally updated on a frequent or consistent basis. In most cases, your portal won't change from "Under Review" to "Decision Made" until your decision is ready to be released. Moreover, colleges usually release decisions in batches rather than on a rolling basis. For Cornell specifically, if you applied Regular Decision, you can expect your decision to be released in late March. If you applied Early Decision, the result is typically out by mid-December. Cornell will likely send you an email notifying you when your decision is available to view on the portal.

That being said, there's no harm in logging into the portal periodically - perhaps once a week - to ensure no updates or requests have slipped through, but constantly refreshing the page won't expedite the process. What's most important is to keep yourself busy with other activities while you're awaiting the decision. It's a stressful time, and any method you have to take your mind off the process, whether it's immersing yourself in schoolwork, spending time with friends, or pursuing hobbies, can be beneficial.
