AP Test Score Distribution

Hey y'all! I've been stressing about my upcoming AP exams. I'm curious, does anyone have any info on the AP test score distribution? Just want to gauge what scores are most common. Thanks!

Hello! AP exam scores indeed vary from subject to subject, and some exams tend to have higher average scores than others. The scores are distributed on a1-5 scale: a score of 5 is considered extremely well qualified, 4 is well qualified, 3 is qualified, 2 is possibly qualified, and 1 is no recommendation.

The College Board annually publishes the percentage of students who achieved each score for every AP exam, which can give you an idea of how typically scores are distributed. Exam difficulty and the preparedness of the students taking them can influence these distributions. For example, AP exams such as Physics C: Mechanics or Calculus BC, often taken by students who are particularly strong in those areas, tend to have higher score distributions than say, Human Geography, which often serves as an introduction to AP for many students.

But remember, the number one goal of taking an AP exam should be to demonstrate your understanding of the material, not just to chase a high score. Wishing you the best of luck on your exams!
