Reviews on Global Leadership Adventures?

I'm thinking of signing up for Global Leadership Adventures but haven't seen much reviews from aparticipants point of view. Can anyone share their experiences? How did it benefit you in the college applications?

Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) is a program that offers international volunteer opportunities for high school students and typically involves local community service coupled with sightseeing and cultural experiences. As such, it can provide significant benefits if you're interested in international relations, service-oriented careers, or simply exploring other cultures.

From an admissions perspective, the value of participation in such programs comes not just from the fact of participating, but from how you reflect on the experiences and articulate those reflections in your college applications.

Consequently, when writing your essays, it's beneficial to concentrate on specific significant experiences during your time with GLA. For example, rather than writing that you spent a summer abroad, you might share a story about an interaction with locals or cultural moment that challenged you or expanded your worldview. Colleges value students who are globally aware and can contribute unique perspectives to their campus communities. Remember, it's less about the program itself and more about the personal growth and unique experiences that come from it. Admissions officers tend to value the substance of your experiences in these programs more than the name of the program itself.

Do keep in mind that, while expensive summer programs like GLA can be beneficial for exploring your interests and learning about different cultures, they typically do not significantly boost your application unless you can demonstrate meaningful leadership or personal development. Similar experiences might be found in lower-cost or local opportunities, like volunteering at a local nonprofit.

Also remember to fact-check the program's credibility. Reach out to past participants through social media or ask your school's guidance counselor. They often are a wealth of information and might be able to connect you with alumni of the program.

Hope this helps and good luck with your decision!
