Linking Naviance and Common App - How to do it?

Hello everyone, my counselor mentioned something about linking my Naviance account to my Common App. Can someone please explain how that works? Also, what are the benefits to doing this? I would really appreciate some step-by-step instructions if possible.

Absolutely! Linking your Naviance and Common App accounts allows for easier communication and document transfer between your high school and the colleges you're applying to. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to link them:

1. Begin by logging into your Common App account.

2. Next, select one of the colleges you are applying to. Different colleges have different practices, but generally, you should see a section called 'Recommendations and FERPA' under each college.

3. You'll be asked to read and agree to the FERPA waiver. Please read this carefully and then agree or disagree based on your understanding. This basically pertains to your rights to access your recommendation letters.

4. Once you complete the FERPA section, log into your Naviance account.

5. In Naviance, click on the 'Colleges' tab and select 'Colleges I'm Applying To'.

6. You should see a prompt asking if you've completed the FERPA release in the Common App. Click 'Match Accounts'.

7. You'll then need to provide the email address you used for the Common App. This will officially link your Naviance and Common App accounts.

After you complete these steps, any documents that your school submits on your behalf (recommendation letters, transcripts, and so on) will automatically sync with your Common App applications. This really streamlines the process for both you and your counselor. Just remember to keep tracking your application documents to make sure everything is submitted on time.
