Difficulty level of Majoring in Economics?

I'm thinking about declaring Economics as my major, but I'm not exactly sure about the workload and complexity. I've heard from some that it can be quite challenging. Is Econ a hard major?

Well, the difficulty of any major largely depends on the individual, their strengths, their interests, and their prior experience in the subject. If you've already taken some economics classes and enjoyed them, that's a positive sign. Economics is a broad field with many sub-disciplines, so the specific courses you'd take can vary quite a bit. However, you can generally expect to take courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and economic theory. These courses could involve challenging concepts, problem-solving exercises, and quite a bit of math, particularly at higher levels.

Economics, like many fields, does involve a certain degree of workload. Assignments could include problem sets, essays, exams, and potentially research projects, particularly if you're at the upper undergraduate level or considering an honors thesis.

However, don't let this intimidate you. Many students thrive in Economics and find the field to be fascinating. It's also worth noting that the skills you gain - such as critical thinking, data analysis, and understanding of economic systems - can be valuable in a wide array of careers.

Remember, it's always a good idea to try out a few courses in your potential major before fully committing. This could give you a better sense of whether Economics feels like a good fit for you. Each person's experience will be unique, so try to gain exposure and make an informed decision for yourself. Good luck!
