Columbia and Early Action

I'm really interested in applying to Columbia University and I'm trying to get a head start on my application. Does Columbia offer an early action plan for those of us who can't wait for the regular decision?

Columbia University does not have an Early Action (EA) option, but they do offer an Early Decision (ED) plan. This means that if you apply early to Columbia and are accepted, you are committed to attend and must withdraw applications to other schools. The deadline for Early Decision at Columbia is typically in early November.

Given that you seem to have Columbia as your top choice and want to apply as soon as possible, this could be a good option for you. But remember that applying ED is a binding agreement, so you should only consider it if you're confident Columbia is your number one choice and you have reviewed the financial obligations thoroughly.

The reasoning behind the ED plan is that it allows the college to gauge the applicant's demonstrated interest and commitment to the institution. This can help your chances a bit, but it also ties you to that college if accepted. So, weigh your options carefully and consider reaching out to the admissions office if you have any uncertainties. The regular decision deadline for Columbia is typically in early January, just as an FYI. So even if you decide that ED isn't the best route for you, there is still plenty of time to submit your application. Good luck!
