I messed up and got caught cheating on Proctorio. What can I do now?

Hey guys, I'm totally freaking out here. I've been reported for academic dishonesty by Proctorio during one of my tests. I know it's my fault and I feel terrible about it. What will happen next? Does this mean that colleges will get notified when I apply? Can it be appealled or expunged from my record?

The first thing you should do is admit your mistake and apologize sincerely to your teacher or the administrative body handling the case. Explain your actions and express your regret. Remember that an honest mistake is more forgivable than trying to hide it or blame others.

The consequences for academic dishonesty can vary significantly depending on your school's policies. It can range from a warning or a lower grade to suspension or even dismissal. It's important that you read through your school's academic honesty policy to understand what might happen.

Whether colleges will get notified about this incident depends on when it occurred and how severe it is. Some colleges do ask on their applications if the applicant has been involved in disciplinary action during high school. In this case, you must be honest and explain the situation, how you've learned from it, and the steps you've taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.

As for whether this can be expunged from your record, it mostly depends on your school's policies. Some schools may give you the opportunity to restore your record by demonstrating consistent academic honesty.

This incident might seem major right now, but it's imperative to remember that everyone makes mistakes - what’s more crucial is how you learn and grow from it. Make sure to embark on a path of rebuilding trust, place more emphasis on academic honesty, and use this as a lesson for the future.
