Calc BC or really Calc2?

Calling all AP kids! I've come across some different viewpoints regarding the AP Calculus BC class. Is it true that AP Calc BC is equivalent to a college-level Calculus 2 course, or are the two different beasts altogether? Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks!

AP Calculus BC is generally recognized as being equivalent to both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 in college. So, in essence, it covers two semesters' worth of college calculus material. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean the curriculum is exactly the same. There can be slight variations in topics covered, depending on the college. Moreover, the pacing and depth of exploration of the topics can often be more rigorous in the university setting. That being said, the AP program aims to offer classes that prepare high school students for college-level coursework, and many colleges and universities in the US do accept AP credit. If you were to earn a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Calc BC exam, for instance, it's commonplace for colleges to award you with credit for their Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 classes.

Always consider reviewing the credit policies of the institutions you're interested in since they all differ. Some schools may give you exemption from taking these courses, while others may give placement or reduce the total number of required credits for graduation.
