Applying to Emory Oxford - any advice?

I'm in the process of applying to the Oxford College at Emory University and could really use some advice. What kind of student thrives here? How does it differ from the main Emory campus? Any tips on the application?

Both campuses of Emory University offer superb academic and extracurricular opportunities, but they indeed have unique characteristics.

1. Student Life and Size: Oxford students are usually folks who prefer a smaller campus environment (around 900 students), with more accessible faculty interaction and closer-knit communities. Many students attest that the smaller campus helps in easing the transition from high school to college-level work.

2. Curriculum: Unlike the Atlanta campus with offerings in a variety of fields, Oxford College focuses more on liberal arts general education. Students receive an Associate of Arts degree after two years before proceeding to the Atlanta campus to complete their Bachelor’s degrees.

3. Leadership Opportunities: The smaller size also allows students to take on leadership roles earlier, like being part of student government or club leaders. In terms of your application:

1. Show Passion for Liberal Arts: Because of Oxford's liberal arts focus, the admissions committee is looking for students who embrace broad learning across various fields. In your essays, emphasize your academic curiosity and the genuine interest you have in learning about various topics.

2. Leadership and Community Engagement: Emphasize your experiences where you thrived in small communities, demonstrated leadership, or actively engaged in community service. These experiences show your fit for Oxford's smaller, close-knit community, where every student can make a difference.

3. Specifics about Oxford: Also ensure that you demonstrate knowledge about Oxford College, its culture, values, and what differences you understand between the Oxford and Atlanta campuses. You could discuss how you plan on taking advantage of what Oxford offers like smaller class sizes, hands-on learning opportunities, or early leadership roles.

4. Emphasize Adaptability: It's crucial to show adaptability since students transition to the Atlanta campus for their junior and senior years, so emphasize your ability to embrace change and thrive in new environments.

Remember that Emory uses the same application for both campuses; the decision on which campus to attend will be a part of your application. So, think carefully about which campus you feel is a better fit for your personality and learning style. Emory looks to create well-rounded and diverse incoming classes for both Oxford and Atlanta campuses, so being authentic and thoughtful in your application is key.
