Holy Cross vs BC – Need Your Opinions

Hey guys, I'm stuck between Holy Cross and Boston College, and I'm having a hard time deciding. If you had to choose, which would you go for and why? Would appreciate any insights on academics, campus life, or other factors that might help me make up my mind.

There's no definitive right or wrong choice between Holy Cross and Boston College–it really depends on what you're looking for in your college experience.

Academically, the two are quite comparable. Both are known for their strong liberal arts concentrations, including humanities and social sciences. Boston College is larger and has a broader range of majors and professional schools, including its well-regarded Carroll School of Management. If you're considering business or other professional programs, BC might have the edge.

As far as campus life is concerned, the two are quite different. Holy Cross’s campus is smaller and situated in Worcester, a mid-sized city. Boston College, however, is larger and located in Chestnut Hill, a suburb of Boston, providing students with access to a host of city amenities, dining options, and internships. Keep in mind, a bigger school can mean a diverse student body but it could also feel overwhelming to some.

Socially, both schools have a relatively strong emphasis on athletics, thanks in part to their Division I standing. But again, the scale is different–BC's teams have more visibility and tradition, especially in football and hockey, so games tend to be big events on campus. In contrast, Holy Cross may offer a more intimate environment.

Finally, both schools are Jesuit institutions, which means they emphasize social justice, intellectual rigor, and personal development. If you're looking for a college experience that integrates both faith and reason, either would be an excellent choice. So, your decision might come down to whether you prefer a larger, more research-oriented university in a big-city setting (BC), or a smaller, undergraduate-focused college in a smaller city (Holy Cross). Take some time to consider what you value most in an academic environment.
