UCLA's Waiting List Process

Guys, I found myself on the waiting list for UCLA. :( Does anyone know how the waiting list process works? How likely am I to actually get off the list and be accepted? And should I send a Letter of Continual Engagement (LOCE), or would that not likely change anything?

I'm sorry to hear that you're in this situation, but being waitlisted doesn't mean you're completely out of the running! Let us discuss the waitlist process and some beneficial steps to take.Every year, UCLA, like many other colleges, extends more offers than they have spots available, banking on the fact that not everyone will accept. Factors like yield (number of admitted students who enroll) can change from year to year, so it's challenging to predict how many students from the waitlist will be admitted. This, unfortunately, makes it hard to determine your likelihood of being accepted off the waitlist.

You mentioned the Letter of Continual Engagement (LOCE) - in some other colleges, this or a similar statement of interest could potentially help, as they may offer spots to waitlisted students who have shown the most interest. However, for UCLA, you should be aware that UC schools typically do not consider continued engagement or interest in their admissions decisions, so an LOCE might not impact your chances to a great extent.

Remember that being waitlisted doesn’t mean that you are denied. Colleges need students to fill the waitlist to ensure a full freshman class, so there's still a chance here! Also, it signifies that the admissions committee recognized your potential; you were a qualified candidate who met the admissions criteria.

That being said, it could be in your best interest to tap into your plan B, while still holding out hope for UCLA. Consider the offers you have at hand and make sure to secure your place elsewhere by the May1st deadline by paying your deposit. If UCLA later offers you admission and you choose to accept it, you can always forfeit that deposit.

In conclusion, the waitlist procedure can indeed be stressful and unpredictable. And although sending a LOCE might not make a substantial difference at UCLA, it won't hurt to show your intent and interest. Best of luck, and remember: you'll end up where you're meant to be!
