Visiting Harvard – What to Expect

Hey folks, I'm planning on visiting Harvard University's campus soon. Can anyone who's visited before share what the experience was like? What spots on campus should I make sure to check out?

Sure, I'd be happy to provide some insights! Harvard University's campus is truly an iconic symbol of academia - stepping foot on it can feel like stepping into a rich blend of history and prestige.

By all means, explore the Harvard Yard. It's the oldest part of the university and the heart of the campus, housing freshman dormitories, lecture halls, and libraries. An interesting tidbit: every incoming freshman is assigned a "napping tree" in the Yard, a unique tradition!

Definitely check out the Widener Library. It's one of the most famous landmarks, boasting an impressive collection of books. Even if you can't go inside (it's primarily reserved for students, faculty, and staff), seeing it from the outside is an experience.

Don't miss Harvard Square! It's THE happening place near campus. It's full of bookstores, cafes, live street performances, and a general lively atmosphere. It’ll give you a fair sense of the community life around Harvard. Grab a meal or coffee here if you can.

The Harvard Museum of Natural History is worth a visit. It houses impressive collections of archeological specimens, minerals, and gemstones. Besides, the Glass Flowers exhibit is one of its kind cross the world, replicating different species of plants in intricate glass models.

Finally, no visit to Harvard would be complete without stopping by the statue of John Harvard. The tradition, slightly humorous, is to rub the statue’s shoe for good luck.

Do keep in mind Harvard is an urban campus so it'll also give you a feel for life in Boston/Cambridge as a whole, which can play a big role in your overall college experience. Enjoy your visit!
