Curious about military colleges in Massachusetts

Does anyone have any info or experience with military colleges in Massachusetts? I'm considering it as a viable option for my post-high school path and would love some insight.

Sure, happy to provide some information about Massachusetts' military colleges. There are a couple of institutions that have a military focus or heritage in Massachusetts.

The most prominent is the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), which is a co-educational, public college located in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. Its curriculum specializes in maritime-, marine-, and STEM-related fields of study. While it's not a military academy per se, the college follows a regimented structure as part of its Sea Term and Cadet Shipping Program. The curriculum encourages discipline, leadership, teamwork, and physical fitness, in similar ways to what you would find at a military academy. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy also has Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) programs, which are commissioned by the U.S. Navy.

Another option, even though it's not a military college per se, is Norwich University. Although it's located in Northfield, Vermont, it's not too far from the Massachusetts border. Norwich is recognized as the nation's oldest private military college and is regarded as the birthplace of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC).

While attending a military-focused institution, students will participate in military-style training and leadership programs alongside their academic studies. Whatever path you decide to take, it's important to keep in mind that these programs require a high level of commitment and discipline. You should consider whether this suits your personality and how it aligns with your future career goals.

Remember to also research other aspects of these schools, like the academic programs, campus culture, support services, and financial aid opportunities, to ensure they align with what you're looking for in a college experience. It might also be helpful to speak with a college counselor or reach out directly to the colleges for further information.
